About Purchases

If you are interested in the purchase of one of these original paintings, I will be happy to send you a good-quality photograph of the painting in order for you to better see the color and detail.   All paintings have high-quality frames chosen to complement the image.   Information about framing can be provided.

Once you have decided on a purchase, the final cost of the painting including shipping and sales tax will be calculated.  Payment may be made by check or money order. After receiving full payment for the painting, I will have the painting crated, insured and shipped to you.   If,  within a reasonable time frame, you should not be satisfied with the painting; your money will be refunded in full upon receiving the painting back in its original condition.

Some originals are available in prints so if you are interested in a print, please let me know which image(s).

About Commissions

Commissioned Paintings

I can create a custom painting in any subject: Pastel or oil, landscape, still life, figurative, architectural design and, of course, portraits. Only permanent pigments on archival paper and canvas are used so commissioned paintings will be enjoyed by future generations.

There are a number of reasons to commission a custom painting.  I can create a painting of any size to fill an unusual space in your home or office because the size of a pastel or oil painting is virtually unlimited.  The color scheme will be customized to give your space a coordinated look.  By using subjects or objects meaningful to you, the painting will reflect your personality and taste.

Portrait Commissions

Before you sign a portrait contract, general information will be discussed.  Why the portrait is being commissioned, the subject, where the portrait will hang, completion deadline, size, price, formal/informal setting, photo reference, clothing and background.

After details are discussed, a contract will be signed.  Because this is a commissioned painting, a non-refundable deposit of 50% will be required.  An initial photography session will then be arranged.

Before the photography session, I develop ideas for the design of the painting but during the actual session, other ideas present themselves.  I look for gestures and expressions unique to the subject and do not usually decide on the final composition until after photos from the session have been studied.

I then do compositional sketches of the final portrait.  I paint many portraits from photographs taken during the photography session. Upon approval of the portrait and receipt of the remaining 50% due, delivery of the painting will be arranged.  If you desire, I will assist you in frame selection.

Every portrait is unique and price is determined by a number of factors.  A Pastel portrait with three-fourths of the sitter’s figure with a simple background starts at $2500 and a head and shoulder portrait starts at $1500.  There are additional charges for multiple subjects or complex backgrounds.

Non-Portrait Commissions

Let me describe a recent commissioned painting.  The client, who was familiar with my work, wanted a painting to hang in her living room.  She really liked my painting “Lindy’s Flowers”.  However, the subject was not that meaningful to her. She wanted me to paint a floral still life including some of her personal items.  I painted a large floral still life based loosely on the design of an existing painting but included items that were meaningful to her.

I prefer to see the space where the painting will be hung and discuss the subject to determine the best way to proceed.  Once we have agreed on the subject, size, due date and price; a contract for the custom commissioned painting will be completed along with a 50% non-refundable deposit.  The balance due including sales tax, framing or other charges is paid when painting is delivered.  Prices on a commissioned non-portrait painting are usually about 25% higher than a non-commissioned painting of the same size.
